WHY USE LIFESTEPS AUSTRALIA?

Josey McMahon, founder of LIFESTEPS is an energetic, self-motivated woman and a passion advocate who has worked with people with disability and their families assisting them to achieve their goals using plans with practical and achievable steps.  Josey has been a strong advocate (acting, writing and speaking) for many years working on behalf of and beside people with disability, including people who have been highly vulnerable to abuse, neglect and exploitation.

Josey is deeply committed to improving the lives of people with disability and has a strong belief that it is possible for people with disability to live lives that have purpose and meaning. Josey will do whatever it takes to achieve positive outcomes for those she is walking alongside.

Josey has a rich lived experience of disability. Josey herself, has low vision and at times has faced challenges that have prevented her from fully participating in life. Josey also has a twin sister with disability (high and complex needs) who lived for almost 48 years in a Queensland Institution. Through Josey's tenacity she has been successful in advocating for her sister to be given the opportunity to live a good life in the community where she is now putting down her roots in her local community.

Josey’s lived experience of disability and knowledge of the human service industry enables her to work effectively to impact and improve the lives of people with disability, including those who are highly vulnerable and considered too complex. In both her personal and professional life she has been successful in assisting people with disability achieve their dreams, aspirations and goals. She has done this by placing people at the centre of all her work, encouraging them to dream and vision a good life, having them reflect on their life experiences, and developing strategies in order to live independently.

When exploring opportunities based around people's dreams, goals and aspirations Josey has encourage consideration for participation in everyday life experiences safeguarded by any necessary supports.
